Boys reportedly got carried away with calls home as they travelled the globe…
One Direction are reported to have clocked up phone bills totalling a staggering £14,000 ($29,000 NZD) while working in north America and Australia.
The fivesome are claimed by The Mirror to have spent a small fortune texting, tweeting and browsing the web as well as calling home.
An insider at record label Syco told the paper: “Like most teenagers, the boys are obsessed with all things social media.
“They’re also encouraged to tweet by management to keep them interacting with fans but Niall and Liam in particular got pretty homesick during their travels and regularly called home.
“When the bills landed on their doormat, the guys were utterly stunned and slightly devastated thinking they’d have to fork out themselves.
“In the end they got called in for a meeting and given a lecture on finances, and how to handle their money. It is vital wealth does not go to their heads. Their bills got signed off and the boys will not be making the same mistake again.”
One Direction‘s Harry Styles has congratulated Ed Sheeran following his win at the Ivor Novello Awards yesterday.
The ‘Lego House’ singer-songwriter picked Best Song Musically And Lyrically for his 2011 debut single ‘The A Team’ , and One Direction star Harry is one of a number of people to congratulate Ed on Twitter.
“@edsheeran congratulations on the Ivor you legend!!” Harry tweeted earleir today (18th May).
After picking up the award at yesterday’s ceremony in London Ed told Capital he felt “a bit emotional” about the honour and admitted it had been a dream of his to win at the Ivor Novellos.
One Direction recently returned to the UKafter a trip to Sweden to start work on recording their second studio album, following success with their 2011 debut record ‘Up All Night’.
Ed Sheeran has also returned to England this week after his recent trip to the US supporting Snow Patrol on tour.
It appears that three of the most in-demand artists around will be congregating at the same music festival in the U.K. this fall with impalpable Jack White, tween heart-throbbers One Direction, and R&B megastar Usher all signing up to perform at this year’s iTunes Festival, taking place in London in September.
The festival runs as a series of absolutely free shows taking place throughout the month (in past years it’s taken place in July), and all performances will be taking place at the same venue, London’s iconic Roundhouse.
One Direction will get their chance to make the audience swoon when they perform their set on September 20. Many more acts will be confirmed in the following weeks.
The 2011 iteration of the festival featured a bevy of heavy-hitting artists, including Coldplay, Linkin Park, My Chemical Romance and the Foo Fighters.
One Direction have hit the studio to work on their second album!
The boys have been on holiday for the past few weeks, but this week they jetted off to Sweden to start laying down some tracks in the studio.
Niall tweeted, “great day soo far in the studio!! got some crackin tunes on the way!.. its been a while since we’ve been in the studio..great t be back”
And it sounds like Tom from McFly has written a song for the band.
Niall wrote on Twitter, “@tommcfly tuuuuune! you’ve smashed it dude..thank you”
We can’t wait to hear that one!
The album is rumoured to be hitting stores later this year. One Direction’s World Tour kicks off in the UK in February, so the album needs to be out before then!
Ever the selfless boyband, One Direction are once again doing their bit for Rays of Sunshine, by promoting their Dish for a Wish cookbook – packed full of celebrity recipes.
The boys have submitted their own creation for the book, which seems to be for nachos.
NACHOS. HOW HARD CAN THEY BE? Cripes. Well, we guess everything can become a challenge if you have a staff of 265 answering to your every need. Sigh.
JLS have got a recipe in there too! For more about the book click here, and to pre-order a copy click here.
We’re off to make some nachos IN ABOUT THREE MINUTES WITHOUT A RECIPE. (Still blates gonna buy the book though…)
